Introduction

Expanding on the first edition of How Do We Know It’s Working? this new toolkit has been created in collaboration with teachers across Europe and in Ethiopia, to provide an innovative and exciting selection of activities for measuring attitudes and attitudinal change in pupils. The activities support teachers in effectively targeting their delivery of Global Citizenship and measuring how successful they are being. 

Teachers often find out about pupils’ attitudes through classroom conversations, or perhaps when a playground conflict arises. These activities enable teachers to take a more systematic approach to discovering attitudes and values amongst pupils, and then, to measure the impact that their teaching has on those attitudes and values. 

Whilst these activities can be used as learning opportunities, generating interesting discussion, they are best used as tools to measure the impact of your teaching. The activities are designed to provide you with a baseline measure of what your pupils think about the world around them and to record their knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. 

You can then prioritise and address the issues that have arisen from this baseline data, through choosing appropriate teaching strategies and resources. Once the activities are repeated or follow up activities are used, they will provide you with data to show the impact of your teaching on pupils’ attitudes, as well as knowledge and skills.
