about the world shop

Trading in Reading since 1987, RISC's world shop is the UK's largest fair trade and ethical shop with a large range of crafts, food, beverages, confectionary, household goods, toiletries, books and teaching resources. The shop owes a large part of its success to its team of hard working volunteers.

sourcing our stock

Whenever possible, the World Shop Co-ordinator will meet in person with importers in order to choose the best range of products for the shop. Our product range is growing all the time with the emphasis being on fair traded and hand crafted products, which utilise traditional skills in the production of stylish and contemporary designs. As a member of the 'British Association of Fair Trade Shops' (BAFTS) we buy from importers who have been monitored to ensure they fulfil strict fair trade criteria.

stalls and tuck shops

RISC's World Shop wants to encourage schools, church groups, youth clubs, etc. to promote fair trade by running fair trade stalls and tuck shops in the Reading area.

The World shop will provide organisers with itemised stock, a cash box if needed and fliers and cards about fair trade and RISC's World Shop to hand out to customers. The stock will be your responsibility. However, we understand that accidental breakages do occur, and we would not expect payment as long as the broken item is returned.

If you're interested in starting a stall please contact us via email including the following details:

  • Your Name
  • Name of the organisation
  • Address of the organisation
  • A contact phone number
  • Estimated age and number of customers
  • Price range and categories of products that you would like to stock (e.g. food/toys/musical instruments)
  • Date and time you would like to collect and return products (to be agreed with the shop coordinator)

Please allow at least one months notice before planning to start a stall.
