meet the team

RISC has grown to become a large organisation with many people working for it in different capacities. As the organisation is a charity we have a board of trustees who are the directors of the charity. We have a management collective, as well as other paid staff for various roles. On top of this we have many volunteers (over 1,000 volunteers have been involved since 1995!), without whom the organisation couldn't function.

trustees

RISC is looking to expand the board of trustees and particularly keen to attract people with finance and accounts, human resources/personnel/employment law and global education experience. We especially would like to attract women and people from Black, Minority Ethnic communities. Trustees meet every two months six times a year.

RISC's board of trustees and collective are very sad to announce the death of one of our long-serving trustees, Roger Elbourne, who died after a short illness. Our thoughts are with Roger's family. He will be sadly missed.

My professional knowledge and experience is in education, in particular, secondary school science. I also have a love and knowledge of Southern Africa, especially Botswana, where I have several contacts and friends in the country having lived there for three years. I have been with RISC since it was founded and I am, at present, Company Secretary. As I have now retired from teaching I volunteer in the World Shop which is now a wonderful place!  Come and see!

My professional and personal interests are in achieving economic and social justice for all people globally. I’ve worked in international development for 14 years and in 2014 I worked for Oxfam supporting humanitarian responses to food security crises. RISC is an amazing organisations and has a unique position to educate the public on the important role of development and I look forward to working with the collective in promoting the importance of working to support local initiatives that has global impact.

Hello, I’m Yarim and love RISC! I started off as a volunteer at the Global Shop and when I had to sadly leave (for work purposes) I maintained a good relationship with RISC staff and especially Leslee – being asked to be a RISC Trustee was fantastic. I have worked with the United Nations (UNDP and FAO) in the Middle East and Europe, heavily involved in the UN MDGs especially ‘Education for All’, I have combined this knowledge with my experience in a UK education charity. I am a Statistician/RSS Fellow, so I love telling a story behind numbers! Being a RISC Trustee offers me the opportunity to apply analytics and my love for global education – it’s perfect. If you haven’t been to RISC yet, please drop by, you will love it!

collective

RISC is managed by a collective of individuals in a flattened hierarchy.  In other words, rather than one single person at the top the we have a group of people who 'collectively' meet regularly to manage the organisation.
